Rape Crisis
RAPE CRISIS MIDWEST
Rape Crisis Midwest was founded over 31 years ago in Limerick to provide support, information and counselling service to survivors of rape, sexual assault, child sexual abuse and incest. Our Head Office is based at Phoenix House, Punch’s Close, Rosbrien Road, Limerick and we have full-time outreach centres in Ennis and Nenagh. We provide a number of services to survivors of sexual violence including the following:
- Telephone & One to One Counselling Service - free confidential crisis, long term and telephone counselling. We offer a safe and supportive environment to enable those survivors to find the best way forward.
- Court Accompaniment. This service is again vital to those who have suffered sexual violence and must face the experience of a court setting, very often for the first time
- Sexual Assault Treatment Unit Workers [SATU]. Rape Crisis Midwest provides trained volunteers to accompany clients to the Regional Hospital. These volunteers give emotional support, information and advocacy services.
- Training and Educational Programme. All of the services provided above could not be fulfilled unless we train and educate volunteers to carry out this work on our behalf. Therefore, education is also a fundamental part to our charity. Training Programmes include Volunteer Counselling, SATU Support Workers and other training and workshops
Our headquarters in Limerick has 8 staff members – 2 full-time and 6 part time. We also rely heavily on volunteers and currently have 10 volunteer counsellors and 11 SATU support workers engaged in our services.. We engage in various fundraising activities in the Midwest throughout the year. If you wish to volunteer with Rape Crisis Midwest, please contact fundraising@rapecrisis.ie
